Roofers in Saltash

Saltash is the first town in Cornwall over the Tamar, under Brunel's railway bridge and the road bridge beside it, and it has more than doubled since that road bridge opened in 1961. Roofsure covers the town and the villages up the river.

Two Bridges, Three Kinds of House

The old town runs down to the waterfront under the Royal Albert Bridge, which opened in 1859: late Edwardian terraces with rendered fronts and slate roofs, some walls slate hung, on streets so steep the town's own plan calls the approaches very steep. Port View, planned in the 1850s under a deed of covenant, is villas with gable-ended slate roofs, crested ridge tiles, carved bargeboards and terracotta finials, and on a roof like that the repair has to match the detail as well as the slate. The big terraces of the 1890s and 1900s, Windsor Terrace, St Stephens Road, North Road and their neighbours, have pitched slate roofs, two-storey bays and rear outriggers with their own small hipped roofs, often on ground above the road. Then the Tamar Bridge opened to traffic on 24 October 1961, the town became a place to live for people working in Plymouth, and it went from about 7,400 people to over 16,000; the newer estates round the edge of the town are what that growth looks like.

The River and the Hill

Saltash looks across the Tamar, and the waterfront and the top of the hill are the parts that take the weather. On a terrace built above the road, the back roof and the outriggers are often harder to see from the street than the front, and that is usually where a slipped slate or a split lead valley has been letting water in unnoticed.

Cornwall Council, Steep Streets

Saltash is in Cornwall, so planning is Cornwall Council's, and Lower Fore Street, running down to the waterfront, is a conservation area where a change of roof material should be checked first. Up the river, Cargreen, Landulph and Botus Fleming sit in the Tamar Valley National Landscape, and Cargreen, Landrake and St Germans have conservation areas of their own. The steep streets in the old town mean scaffold takes planning, which we do on the free roof check.

Questions From Saltash

Do you come over the bridge for small jobs?

Yes. Saltash is 4 miles from Plymouth city centre and inside our 10 miles, and a few slipped slates is a job we do.

My house has slate hung on the walls. Can you look at it?

We will look at it on the free roof check and tell you honestly whether it is a repair we do or one for a specialist. The roof itself we do.

Do you cover Landulph and Cargreen?

Yes. Hatt, Landulph, Cargreen, Landrake and St Germans are all inside our 10 miles and covered from this page.

Customer Reviews

Had Kyren and his team out to sort a leaking roof valley on our terrace after the heavy rains last month. They turned up when they said they would, got straight to work, and cleaned up all the old tile debris properly before leaving. Fair price and solid work.

Dave MillerExeter

We needed composite cladding put on the back extension to replace some old timber that was rotting. Kyren gave us a straightforward quote with no hidden extras. The finish is spot on, and the lads worked right through a couple of miserable weather days to get it finished on schedule.

Sarah JenkinsTruro

Kyren and his team repointed the entire side gable on our cottage. Very tidy workers, raked out the old crumbling mortar cleanly, and matched the new pointing nicely with the rest of the brickwork. Polite, punctual, and easy to deal with.

Mark TreloarExmouth

Full re-slate and lead flashing job on our bungalow. Kyren explained exactly what needed replacing without trying to upsell unnecessary extras. Scaffolding went up and came down on time, and the roof looks great. Good, hard-working local crew.

Fiona CampbellSt Austell

Called Roofsure after noticing a couple of slipped tiles and loose mortar around the chimney stack. Kyren popped round to take a look, gave a reasonable estimate, and had the job done by the end of the week. Honest, reliable service.
