Had Kyren and his team out to sort a leaking roof valley on our terrace after the heavy rains last month. They turned up when they said they would, got straight to work, and cleaned up all the old tile debris properly before leaving. Fair price and solid work.

The Job
The fascia is the board along the edge of the roof that the gutter hangs from, the soffit is the board underneath that closes the eaves, and the bargeboard is the one that runs up the gable. On most houses they were softwood, painted every few years for a while and then not. Once the paint goes the timber takes on water, the gutter brackets pull out of it, and the soffit sags and opens up a gap that birds and wasps move into. Replacing them in uPVC is a job that gets done once. The old boards come off, which is the moment to check the rafter feet behind them for rot, because a fascia that has been wet for years has usually been passing the water back. New uPVC fascia and soffit boards go on with the right fixings, colour-matched joints and corners, and the ventilation the roof needs: continuous soffit vents or over-fascia vents that let air into the roof space, which stops condensation rotting the timbers from the inside. The gutters come off and go back on into the new board, re-hung to a fall, or are replaced at the same time if they are brittle. It tidies the whole roofline and it is one of the few jobs on a house that pays for itself in paint you never buy again.
Signs You Need Us
- Paint flaking off the fascia and bare grey timber showing
- A soft board when you push a screwdriver into it
- Gutter brackets pulling away, or the gutter sagging along a run
- Birds or wasps getting into the eaves
- A soffit board sagging, bowed or hanging down
- Black staining or mould along the eaves inside the loft
What We Check
- Every fascia, soffit and bargeboard, by hand
- The rafter feet and wall plate behind the fascia, once it is off
- Whether the roof space has any ventilation at present
- The first row of tiles and the eaves felt or tray, which often need renewing at the same time
- The gutters and downpipes
- Access and whether a scaffold is needed
What We Do
- Old boards removed and the rafter feet checked and treated or repaired
- New uPVC fascias, soffits and bargeboards fitted with colour-matched trims and joints
- Continuous soffit or over-fascia ventilation fitted
- Eaves felt support trays fitted so the bottom row of tiles drains into the gutter
- Gutters re-hung to a fall into the new board, or replaced
- Old boards and rubbish taken away
On the Day
A typical semi takes two to three days with a scaffold or tower along the eaves. The gutters are down for part of the job, so we plan it round the weather. Everything old goes away with us and the drive is swept on the last day.
The Cost of Leaving It
A rotten fascia lets the gutter drop, and a dropped gutter pours water down the wall and back onto the fascia. Once the rafter feet behind are wet the job stops being a roofline job and becomes a carpentry one. Sealed eaves with no ventilation cause condensation in the loft that rots timbers and stains ceilings over time.

Questions About Fascias & Soffits
Can you cap over the old fascia instead of replacing it?
You can, and some firms do. We do not, because it hides rotten timber and the gutter still has nothing sound to fix to. Full replacement costs a little more and is a job done once.
What colours are there?
White is standard. Anthracite grey, black and woodgrain finishes such as rosewood and golden oak are available. Grey has become the common choice on rendered houses.
Do I need ventilation?
Almost every roof does. Old timber soffits leaked air through the gaps; a tight uPVC soffit with no vents seals the roof space and the condensation has nowhere to go. We fit vents as standard.
Will you replace the gutters too?
We take them off to do the job and re-hang them into the new board. If they are brittle or leaking we will quote to replace them at the same time, which is the cheapest moment to do it.
Is it a job for scaffolding?
On a two-storey house, usually a tower or scaffold along the eaves. On a bungalow, ladders and a short tower. We arrange whichever it needs and include it in the price.
Customer Reviews
We needed composite cladding put on the back extension to replace some old timber that was rotting. Kyren gave us a straightforward quote with no hidden extras. The finish is spot on, and the lads worked right through a couple of miserable weather days to get it finished on schedule.
Kyren and his team repointed the entire side gable on our cottage. Very tidy workers, raked out the old crumbling mortar cleanly, and matched the new pointing nicely with the rest of the brickwork. Polite, punctual, and easy to deal with.
Full re-slate and lead flashing job on our bungalow. Kyren explained exactly what needed replacing without trying to upsell unnecessary extras. Scaffolding went up and came down on time, and the roof looks great. Good, hard-working local crew.
Called Roofsure after noticing a couple of slipped tiles and loose mortar around the chimney stack. Kyren popped round to take a look, gave a reasonable estimate, and had the job done by the end of the week. Honest, reliable service.
