Had Kyren and his team out to sort a leaking roof valley on our terrace after the heavy rains last month. They turned up when they said they would, got straight to work, and cleaned up all the old tile debris properly before leaving. Fair price and solid work.
Roofers in Ivybridge
Ivybridge grew from a mill town on the Erme into one of the bigger towns in the South Hams in twenty years, at the southern edge of Dartmoor and right on the edge of our 10 miles. Roofsure covers the town and the villages around it.

Mill Town to Commuter Town
The old centre follows the river, where Stowford paper mill worked from 1787 to 2013 and the granite bridge the town is named after still stands. The older houses are stone or brick with slate-hung fronts and end walls, stuccoed villas under low-pitched slate roofs, and here and there scantle slate, the small slates laid in diminishing courses that you find on older Devon roofs. Beside the railway, the granite piers of Brunel's 1848 viaduct still stand next to the one that replaced it in 1892. After the A38 bypass was finished in 1974 the town began to grow, and in the 1980s and 1990s it more than doubled, from about 5,100 people in 1981 to about 12,000 by 2001. Most of Ivybridge now is the housing from those years: semis, detached houses and terraces under concrete tile, the older ones now due a look at their ridges, felt and flat-roofed garages and porches, the newer ones at the stage of a slipped tile after a gale or a gutter that was never hung to a fall.
Rain Off the Moor
The Erme comes into the town at about 91 metres and leaves at about 40, straight off the slopes of Dartmoor, and the valley sides catch the wind and the rain the moor sends down. Moss grows fast on north-facing slopes, gutters under the trees by the river fill in a single autumn, and a flat roof that holds water gets plenty of practice at leaking.
Permissions and Access
The town itself is South Hams District Council's for planning and sits just outside Dartmoor National Park; Cornwood, on this page's patch, is inside it, so there the Park Authority decides. Ivybridge has had a conservation area since 1985, and Ermington one since 1976. Like-for-like roof repairs and re-roofs need no permission either way; a change of material, or roof windows on a street-facing slope, is the thing to check first. Most newer roofs are reached easily from drives; the older streets by the river are tighter.

Questions From Ivybridge
Is Ivybridge really inside your area?
Yes, just. The town centre is a shade under 10 miles from Plymouth city centre in a straight line, so we cover the whole town and the villages listed here.
Do you re-roof the houses built in the eighties and nineties?
Yes. A concrete tile roof of that age is a straightforward re-roof: new battens and membrane, the tiles laid again or replaced, and a dry ridge so the mortar stops cracking.
Do you cover Cornwood and Lee Mill?
Yes, both, along with Lutton and Ermington, all inside our 10 miles.
Customer Reviews
We needed composite cladding put on the back extension to replace some old timber that was rotting. Kyren gave us a straightforward quote with no hidden extras. The finish is spot on, and the lads worked right through a couple of miserable weather days to get it finished on schedule.
Kyren and his team repointed the entire side gable on our cottage. Very tidy workers, raked out the old crumbling mortar cleanly, and matched the new pointing nicely with the rest of the brickwork. Polite, punctual, and easy to deal with.
Full re-slate and lead flashing job on our bungalow. Kyren explained exactly what needed replacing without trying to upsell unnecessary extras. Scaffolding went up and came down on time, and the roof looks great. Good, hard-working local crew.
Called Roofsure after noticing a couple of slipped tiles and loose mortar around the chimney stack. Kyren popped round to take a look, gave a reasonable estimate, and had the job done by the end of the week. Honest, reliable service.
